What a weekend for our senior athletes with the Navan AC singlet on show in all corners of the country.
Sam Maguire returned home and made an appearance at Navan parkrun where the numbers of runners and volunteers from the club were well into double figures. Also in Parkrun action on Saturday morning were Philip and Sophie who headed up to Donegal to tackle the Letterkenny parkrun.
Donegal was also the destination for Colly on Saturday morning as he flew the Navan AC flag at the scenic Ballyliffin 10 mile. Also on Saturday, Frances headed down to Carlow for a 10k battle with some fighting cocks while Isobel was able to admire the view across the Irish sea in the Bray 10k Cliff run.
Offaly was the first port of call on Sunday morning where Suzanne and Olive headed to Lough Boora discovery park for an Easter Sunday half marathon. while Deborah hopped her way around the 10k course at the Tullaroan Bunny Run in Kilkenny.
Last, but most certainly not least were our 15 representatives at the FrMurphy AthleticClub 10k road race in Kildalkey which also doubled as the Meath 10k Road Race championships. It proved to be a great day for the club with both our men’s and ladies team being awarded team prizes. James, Barry, Conor and Keith all broke the 40 minute barrier to secure a 3rd place team finish while Derek dipped under 50 minutes for the first time with Colin and Neil coming in close behind. There was a second place finish for our ladies team with Ciara, Mary (2nd in her category), Sonya (3rd in her category) and Clarissa leading the charge with Grainne, Pam, Ruth and Patricia also in flying form.
Saturday morning proved to be a good day for our two members participating in the East of Ireland marathon in Longwood. Despite picking up an injury in the closing stages Nichola held on to finish as first female in 3:44 while James smashed his PB, running a superb time of 3:25.
Navan AC were also well represented at a hilly Wicklow Gaol Half Marathon & 10k on Sunday. New recruit Clarissa was our sole participant in the half marathon running a great time of 1:48 on a very tough course while Derek and his motley crew were on tour again for the 10k with some great times posted. There is no adult training this evening as the track in Claremont is still closed due to it being covered in snow. Juvenile training goes ahead indoors.
